eBay "Auction Sniping"?
Does anybody know of a way to prevent unknown other bidders from submitting "auction sniping" bids at the last couple seconds? Can something be done with bidding you place to prevent this?

- No you cannot prevent it. If you can't beat 'em join 'em
- It's against eBay policy. If you suspect anyone of doing this on any auctions, you should report them. REBUTTAL: I think I had seen something on eBay at one point about automated bidding, i.e., by using some kind of script or program to bid on your behalf, which is what I was thinking of, but as far as people placing high bids themselves at the last second, that just happens. Bidders aren't "unknown" since they have to show their user ID publicly except under certain circumstances such as big-ticket items such as jewelry, rare coins, etc. Thanks for correcting my error, Boingo. :-) Here's the link I just found: http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/outbid-ov.html
- No, and it is fair and square. That is why you are encouraged to bid high if you really want the item. Meet one of ebay's snipers. I have even been hired to snipe for other people who want an item badly enough to pay to get it. It is not against ebay's policy Michael. http://answercenter.ebay.com/thread.jspa?threadID=285022&forumID=16&start=0
- Nope - not unless you have a higher proxy bid in before they snipe. In that case, when they bid the system takes YOUR bi higher and they don't have time left to snipe again. I love sniping - usually bid at about 3 seconds!! Some I win, some I lose.
- EBay is similar to any other auction. If you want something, you must be the highest bidder regardless of how you do it.
