How can I upload video from my miniDV camacorder (JVC GR-D250U) to my computer?

I bought the camcorder from an online auction, so OF COURSE I didn't recieve any extra's (software, connection lines, etc.) Now I want to upload the movies so I can share them with family. Can I use USB, or do I need a special connector, and driver on my computer. I've tried USB but my computer can't find a driver, so I have the wrong thing? Is there anywhere to download the software I might need? Thanks

  1. You need to use a IEEE-1394 cable (firewire). You will need a 4 pin end for the camcorder and than depending on your computer a 4 or 6pin to interface. It will be plug and play on a windows based machine, and imovie will load it on any apple.
  2. go to best buyi think they probably have the cord u need. just tell them the same thing u have on here. u also mighyt need the software to install. it. hope this helps
  3. You will need a Firewire/DV port so that you can connect the camera. This camera does not stream video over the USB port. If you dont have a firewire port on your computer, you can get something like the device below. This will enable you to connect a firewire device over a USB port. Once you have your camera connect, you can use the free windows movie maker to capture the video and edit it, then export it to a file. If you dont have Movie maker on your computer you can download it free from microsoft. Also I've included a link to a how to guide for movie maker below.

  5. Depending on the features available in your camcorder model, here are a few things that you can do to achieve your objective: 1 -- If you have firewire port in your camcorder, get a firewire card installed in your PC and then using the s/w provided with the camcorder, transfer the video onto the pc. 2 -- If your camcorder supports USB streaming, then you can you the USB port on your PC to get the video transfered onto your PC. 3 -- If your PC has a TV tuner card, give the o/p of your camcorder to this tuner card and then get the video transfered onto your PC
