I need to build an auction website where the website owner can deduct cash from winning bids and divert it to himself (unseen to bidders and sellers, but is specified prior to signup) and the rest goes to the seller. The website owner can pad this additional amount as part of starting bid, but the system will recognize this addition independently. Now is there an existing auction software or plugin (for wordpress and the like) that does this? Is this even a good idea? My sniping software is a simple open-source product, great for straight use but I'm looking to set up something more complex here. I need a product that allows me to flag multiple auctions, set a price, snipe away but then STOP if I actually win one of the auctions. I'm not sure what this feature would even be called, so I can't tell who would offer it. I have DSL, so I can use software, but if I have to employ a service to get the feature I need, I'll do that. All have very similar profile names and then a "regular" name will win the bid. I keep seeing this happening. This can not be a mistake or coincident. I am fairly technically inclined but never wrote web apps or software etc.. I have project managed many web sites but this 1 is different. I am looking for insight on how to best do this. The main splash page would be different but once they logged in they'd get the itunes style interface. 1) It would have to be secure from people downloading 3 types of files. They would actually view video as flash (hi/lo), audio as 64 or 32 and be able to download only pdf's. 2) Would it be something they download (like itunes) or would I make it a web app? I am leaning toward webapp. Why one way or the other? 3) Would the data be stored on mssql type database or? 4) Could/would it be done best in php versus ms.net (true .net) 5) Would it employ a content management system off the shelf?
